The cactus house - Hignell Gallery
We all know a day out in London can get rather expensive. There's so much to do all year round & yes some of those things can definitely mean spending but there's also a lot of free places to visit. If you can cover the cost of a travel card & you're willing to do a fair bit of walking; London can be a great place to explore on the cheap. Jacob & I put this to the test by planning a cheap day out exploring the local exhibitions.

First stop Hignell gallery which was the one place planned out. I had done a bit of research via Time out to found a few museums & pop up exhibitions that we could visit & this jumped out at me. Of course it did; anyone who knows me or follows me online knows I love cacti & marble is very on trend at the moment. It unfortunately didn't live up to my expectations as the images made it look more of an inside garden with the pieces featured but it was more bare as you can see. Nether the less the sculptures were beautiful.

As we got to London pretty early we decided to take a wander through covent garden before going to our next planned stop & if you've visited you knows there's lots to see. It's great for shopping but we just wanted to have a snoop around rather than spend. It killed an hour or two with just window shopping & taking a few snaps. There were really great features put on for spring which were great to grab an outfit photo or two which I'll be posting Saturday!!

Next we decided to visit Oxford street as we had a few things to grab but hopped off at a few stops ahead & decided to walk the rest of the way. It was really great as we got to see another side of London & explore places we hadn't thought to visit. Along the way we popped into this pop up exhibition in a shopping area which was rather interesting. The pieces speak for themselves & the narrative was worth a quick visit.

Our final exhibition stop was also on our way to Oxford street & as you can tell we loved it. There were a few artists on show including Banksy & just lots to see. London seems to have so many hidden gems that if you're always planning your day you would easily miss. I'm not very knowledgeable about art but I really enjoy looking around galleries & sculptures definitely jump out at me. The use of shadow in the final pieces shown looked beautiful & photographed amazingly. I'm really glad we decided to pop in & I'll definitely take more trips to this gallery in the future.
Its amazing what you can find in London when your not really looking; sometimes you've just got to do things on a whim & see what you can discover. We never ended up going to our second planned museum because we opted for food instead but it was nice to let go & just explore for a change. I love planning days out in London & I think from now on I'll be a bit looser when it comes to the days itinerary.
